〔必要に備えて買っておくこと〕 buying [laying] in 《a stock of candles》; stocking up 《on sth》; buying sth in case one needs 《it》; buying a stock [reserve] of 《food》.

●地震などの自然災害に備えて電池を買い置きしている. I have a reserve of [I've stocked up on] batteries in case there's a natural disaster like an earthquake.

●「砂糖が切れてる」「戸棚に買い置きがあるわ」 “We've run out of sugar.”―“There's an emergency supply [I've put some aside] in the cupboard.”

買い置きの品 a reserve stock 《of soap》; an emergency supply 《of candles》; reserves of 《food》; things laid in [purchased] in case of need.
